manifesto

what does an architecture student need to understand, test and communicate today to participate in the architecture of tomorrow?

architecture now and beyond is a pilot elective. it asks what architecture students need to explore now to take part critically, creatively and responsibly in a profession being reshaped by artificial intelligence, digital culture, new media, changing patterns of practice, occupants, environmental uncertainty and new forms of public communication.

the course is a laboratory, not a lecture series. students experiment, investigate, make, publish, teach one another, organise events, meet practitioners and construct future scenarios. the instructor acts as curator, supervisor, methodological guide and critic.

how we work

  1. 01

    do — don't just present

experiment, observe, test, interview, make, compare or investigate before presenting conclusions.

  2. 02

    ai is mandatory but auditable

ai use is a focus, but workflows, prompts, verification, failures and human decisions must be visible.

  3. 03

    evidence matters

we distinguish opinion, assumption, observation, evidence and interpretation.

  4. 04

    failure is productive

a failed experiment with rigorous reflection may be worth more than a polished, predictable result.

  5. 05

    the classroom is co-produced

students become workshop leaders, organisers, moderators, interviewers and curators.

  6. 06

    publish with purpose

public work is judged by architectural value, accuracy, authorship, communication and reflection — never by popularity.
